Photographer & filmmaker. Mountains, vertical walls, open sea.
Director | Cinematographer | Opodal Films
Opodal Films is a film production company founded in 2021 by Jan Wierzejski, Wojtek Kozakiewicz and Mikolaj Walczewski. We make films about sport and the mountains, often where they meet culture and art. Our crew has shot for Netflix, National Geographic and the BBC, and our documentaries have screened at Banff, Bilbao Mendi and Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards. We handle every project from concept through the shoot to final post-production.
About
I'm a photographer, director and cinematographer based in the Tatra Mountains. For over twenty years I have been working where the shoot gets vertical, cold or wet: on mountain faces, on ski slopes, on ropes beside waterfalls and at sea. I've worked on productions for Netflix, National Geographic and the BBC, and with brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Petzl. I also work as a drone pilot and location scout.
My first documentary, Mój czas (My Time), about ultra-runner Magda Łączak, won a Silver Dolphin at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards. I'm currently finishing 6 Seconds, a feature documentary about speed-climbing world record holder Aleksandra Mirosław, which I co-direct with Wojtek Kozakiewicz.
I didn't start behind the camera. After graduating in interior design from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, I spent 2003–2010 as a set designer on commercials and feature films. Then I moved to the Tatras and devoted myself to film and photography.
In 2021 I co-founded the production company Opodal Films with Wojtek Kozakiewicz and Mikołaj Walczewski. Together with my wife and sister-in-law, I also founded 5+ Mountain School in the Five Polish Ponds Valley. I climb, ski and sail. I hold an RYA Coastal Skipper licence and I'm part of the OSHEE Slide Challenge team, rappelling down the world's ten highest waterfalls.
